Application Forms and Submission Instructions
The following items must be submitted to the TREND Program:
- Online application form
- Two letters of recommendation (note that TREND will not send out requests for letters of recommendation; this is the applicant's responsibility)
- Unofficial transcript
The essay will be submitted as part of your online application form. Prior to beginning the online application, compose an answer to the following in the word processing software of your choice and copy and paste the text into your application: Please explain how the TREND experience will help further your academic and/or career interests.
Applicants without the recommended 3.3 GPA should also use the essay to explain any special mitigating circumstances.
Letters of recommendation may be submitted electronically to email@example.com or to Prof. Girvan at the address below. These materials may arrive separately. Unofficial transcripts can be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Regardless of the method chosen, the deadline for receipt of the completed application, essay, unofficial transcript, and the letters of recommendation is February 17, 2017. Applications received after the deadline will be considered only on a space-available basis.
The Physics REU sites directors will utilize a common deadline of March 3, 2017, for students to accept or decline first round offers at domestic (non-international) sites. Sites may send offers to students at any time before this, but students will not be required to decide before March 3. Because of necessary organizational lead time, international REU sites may require earlier acceptance dates.

Students accepted to the program must submit their official transcripts. Official transcripts must be sent by the registrar of your university either electronically to firstname.lastname@example.org or to the following address:
