Graduate Student Seminar - 12/06/2013

"Directly Accelerating Electrons 1000 Times a Second Using Tabletop Lasers"

by Jeffrey Magill

Friday, December 6, 2013 -- 12:00 p.m.
Large Conference Room, 1207 Energy Research Facility

Advisor:  Assistant Professor Kiyong Kim

Particle accelerators are very useful tools for many endeavors across science and medicine. As such, there is a consistent demand for smaller, cheaper, and better accelerators. The development of a new variety of laser-based electron acceleration is discussed, along with its mechanism, its design challenges, and the progress in proving the concept at 1 kHz rep-rate.
