"Phase Dependence of Terahertz Wave Generation from Two-Color Laser-Produced Plasma"

by Yong Sing You

Friday, December 14, 2012 -- 12:00 p.m.
Large Conference Room, 1207 Energy Research Facility

Advisor: Assistant Professor Kiyong Kim

Intense terahertz (THz) pulses are produced when femtosecond laser pulses (ω) with its second harmonic (2ω) are focused onto gaseous targets. Several experiments have shown that the generation process is phase dependent. THz yield changes sinusoidal with phase different between two colors. However, it is unclear that at what phase difference THz yield is maximized. In this talk, I will present our recent work in simultaneous measurement of the phase difference and THz yield. I will discusss how the measurement may challenge current models of the generation process.
