Student-Company Event sponsored by ISR:  United Technologies Research Center (UTRC)

This is an ISR-organized company information event for students. The event includes information on the company, its line of work, the role of systems engineering, and recruiting activities for interns and full-time hires (kinds of employee skills, information on applying, and advice on resumes and interviewing). Come to this event to learn about United Technologies Research Center, and engage in discussions with two senior researchers.  This should be quite useful towards your future employment.  You are welcome to bring your CV to give to them. We encourage you to ask questions during this interactive event.

Please note: UTRC is interested in U.S. citizens and Green Card holders.

About UTRC

UTRC has been curious about making things better—for industries, people and the planet—since our founding in 1929. Addressing the challenges that come from increasing levels of urbanization and globalization—such as the needs for greater efficiency, integration, and performance in modern technologies—serve as the driving force behind our explorations. As such, our researchers focus on the big picture, investigating the “what ifs” of advanced propulsion and power, energy storage, building efficiency, autonomy and human-machine interaction, and revolutionary aircraft systems. Their ideas are designed for application, culminating in products, technologies and systems that impact the world.

About Dr. Andrzej Banaszuk

Andrzej Banaszuk, Ph.D., is Senior Director, Systems at United Technologies Research Center (UTRC). In this role, he provides direct and matrix leadership to the technology activities across UTRC and with the Program Offices representing each UTC business unit. This includes directing technical staff, laboratories and partnerships for research in Controls, Embedded Systems, Decision Support & Machine Intelligence, Power Electronics, Systems Engineering, Modeling of System Dynamics and Optimization and Cyber-Physical Systems. Banaszuk is also charged with ensuring the health of the organization for all technology and engineering needs across UTRC, to include availability, quality and capability of personnel and processes for technology development, product innovation, project management and project engineering staff across all organizations as well as directing UTRC’s Advanced Laboratory on Embedded Systems (ALES) offices in Italy.  Since joining UTRC in 1997, Banaszuk has conducted research in analysis, design and control of dynamical systems applied to jet engines, rotorcraft, unmanned systems, electric power networks, and buildings. Since 2000, he has led collaborative research teams in the areas of flow control, control of combustion instabilities, robust design of large uncertain dynamic networks, and autonomy.

About Dr. Andrew Sparks

Dr. Andrew Sparks received his BS and MS in Mechanical Engineering from MIT in 1986 and 1988 and joined what is now Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) as a military officer. He received his PhD in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Michigan in 1995, returning to AFRL to lead several research teams in developing and transitioning modern control analysis and design methods for aerospace vehicles, authoring or co-authoring one book, two book chapters, 30 journal articles, and 72 conference papers. He received his MS in Management from Stanford University as a Sloan Fellow and returned to AFRL to lead the Analytical Mechanics Branch, Flight Control Division, and Power and Control Division, leading R&D programs in flight control, automation, electrical power systems and thermal management. For the last two years has been the Control Systems Group Leader in the Systems Department at UTRC, leading a highly technical team in developing capabilities and solving challenges for UTC’s aerospace and building business units.
