Research Interests: 

Professor Kim's research interests include ultrafast optical, x-ray, and terahertz science, and high-energy density laboratory plasma.


Professor Kim received a B.S. in physics from Korea University, Seoul, South Korea, in 1995 and the Ph.D. in physics from the University of Maryland College Park in 2003.   Prior to coming to the University of Maryland he was a Director's Postdoctoral Fellow at Los Alamos National Laboratory, New Mexico.

Honors and Awards: 

Professor Kim is the recipient of the Marshall N. Rosenbluth Outstanding Doctoral Thesis Award presented by the American Physical Society in 2004 and the Postdoctoral Distinguished Performance Award at Los Alamos National Laboratory in 2008.

Professional Memberships: 

Professor Kim is a member of the American Physical Society and the Optical Society of America.
