Raymond /C. Elton

Elton, Raymond C.

Research Scientist
1202W Energy Research Facility

Research Interests:

Dr. Elton's expertise lies in the areas of optical and spectroscopic diagnostics of high temperature plasmas and, in particular, the development and understanding of lasers for the x-ray spectral region. He is presently involved in fielding diagnostics for fusion experiments and for measuring spectral line intensities and profiles in laser-produced plasmas.

Dr. Elton received his doctorate in physics from the University of Maryland in 1963.

Selected Publications:

He is the author of the seminal book in the field entitled "X-ray Lasers."

Honors and Awards:

Dr. Elton was elected a fellow of the American Physical Society, Division of Plasma Physics.   He is also a fellow of  the Optical Society of America and a recipient of the Sigma Xi Pure Science Award.
