"Tips for Giving a Successful Scientific Presentation"

by Tom Murphy, Director, IREAP

Friday, September 11, 2015 -- 12:00 p.m.
Large Conference Room, 1207 Energy Research Facility

Most of us have had years of training and experience in conducting research, analyzing data, and understanding complex physical, mathematical and technical concepts. However, there is a tremendous scarcity of training in how to communicate these difficult ideas and results to an audience. Effective communication can make the difference when it comes to building your reputation as a scientist, getting others to appreciate and cite your work, and landing your next job. In this talk, I will provide guidance and advice gathered from years of experience, for how to compose, prepare and deliver an effective, compelling, and clear scientific presentation. This is meant to be an interactive discussion, allowing ample time for questions, answers, and observations.
