Yanne Chembo

Research Interests: 

Professor Yanne Chembo joined IREAP in January 2019.   Prior to joining UMD, he was a Reseach Director at the French National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS).   There, he led a research group focused on the exploration of nonlinear, quantum and stochastic phenomena in optoelectronics, microwave photonics, and laser physics.  


He received a Ph.D. degree in photonics in 2006 from the University of the Balearic Islands (Palma de Mallorca, Spain), and independently, a Ph.D. degree in nonlinear dynamics from the University of Yaounde I (Cameroon).

Honors and Awards: 

Professor Chembo has been elected a Fellow of the Optical Society of America (2019).

Professional Memberships: 

He was a member of the Committee for Regional Development of the International Commission for Optics (ICO) from 2014 to 2017 and was a board member of the organization committee for the International Year of Light (IYL 2015).  He currently serves in the IEEE Photonics Society Membership Council and as Associate Editor for the OSA journal Optics Express.  He is a Fellow of SPIE.
