IREAP Welcomes New Faculty: Carlos Ríos Ocampo and Sasha Philippov

IREAP will have two new faculty joining the institute next year! Please join us in welcoming Carlos Ríos Ocampo and Sasha Phillipov:
 
Carlos Ríos Ocampo joins the University of Maryland as an Assistant Professor (MSE) in August 2021.  Dr. Ríos Ocampo received his DPhil in Materials Science from Oxford University in 2017, his MSc in Optics and Photonics from Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, and his BS in Physics from University of Antioquia, Colombia in 2010.  He is currently a postdoctoral associate at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.  We are pleased to welcome him as the latest member of the IREAP Photonics faculty. 
 
 
Sasha Philippov will join the University of Maryland as an Assistant Professor (Physics) in May 2022.  Dr. Philippov earned his PhD in astrophysical sciences from Princeton University in 2017 and was a NASA Einstein Postdoctoral Fellow at UC-Berkeley. His earlier degrees were earned at the Moscow Institute for Physics and Technology (2010, 2012). He is currently an Associate Research Scientist at the Flatiron Institute in Manhattan.  We are happy to welcome him as the latest member of the IREAP's Plasma Theory faculty.
