Background
Dr. Abel received a B.A. in mathematics from the University of Cambridge in the UK in 2006, a M.S. in applied mathematics from Cambridge in 2007, and a Ph.D. in theoretical physics from the University of Oxford in 2012. Dr. Abel was a junior research fellow at Merton College, Oxford after completing his Ph.D. He was a fellow at the Princeton Center for Theoretical Science between 2013 and 2016, after which he worked as a researcher at Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg, Sweden. He joined the University of Maryland in October 2018.
Dr. Abel's research interests lie in the modeling of magnetically confined fusion systems. Currently his research is focused on the edge of tokamak devices and also modeling of innovative confinement concepts.
