BACKGROUND

Professor Lathrop received a B.A. in physics from the University of California at Berkeley in 1987, and a Ph.D. in physics from the University of Texas at Austin in 1991.   He was a postdoctoral fellow, research affiliate, and lecturer at Yale University, and was later an assistant professor at Emory University.  He joined the University of Maryland in 1997.
