"Quantum Model for Laser Field Ionization"

Modeling the propagation of intense short laser pulses through a tenuous medium requires accurate treatment of the material's dielectric response. Current simulations treat the material response for bound and ionized electrons separately, ignoring time dynamics during ionization. Standard quantum models offer a more realistic dielectric response, but are far too computationally expensive to use in laser propagation simulations. Here a quantum model is introduced utilizing a nonlocal potential that dramatically decreases computation time. Results are compared to standard models showing excellent agreement, offering a computationally efficient quantum model to be used in laser propagation simulations.
