2013 James Clerk Maxwell Prize

Professor Phillip Sprangle (ECE/PHYS/IREAP) was recently selected to receive the 2013 James Clerk Maxwell Prize for Plasma Physics.

The prize is awarded annually by the American Physical Society (APS) to recognize outstanding contributions to the field of plasma physics and is the highest honor bestowed to plasma physicists by the APS. The prize consists of $10,000 and a certificate with Prof. Sprangle's name and a citation which will read "For pioneering contributions to the physics of high intensity laser interactions with plasmas, and to the development of plasma accelerators, free-electron lasers, gyrotrons and high current electron accelerators."

The award will be bestowed at the annual meeting of the Division of Plasma Physics to be held in Denver, Colorado, November 11-15, 2013.
