BACKGROUND

Dr. Sina Zahedpour Anaraki received his Ph.D. in electrical and computer engineering in December 2017 from the University of Maryland, College Park.   He received the ECE Distinguished Dissertation Award for his thesis "Ultrafast Nonlinear Response of Atomic and Molecular Gases in Near-IR and Mid-IR Regions."   He is presently working at the Laboratory for Intense Laser Matter Interactions at UMD under the direction of Professor Howard Milchberg.

Nonlinear optics, laser-matter interactions and laser filamentation. We use single-shot supercontinuum spectral interferometry (SSSI) and other diagnostics to study the nonlinear response of materials (gases, liquids, and solids) to ultrashort pulses in the near, mid and long wavelength infrared regimes. We recently developed transient grating SSSI (TG-SSSI) to study the phase and amplitude of ultrashort pulses after linear and nonlinear propagation. Using this technique we showed that spatio-temporal optical vortices (STOVs) not only naturally spawn during collapse arrest phase of filamentation, but they can be linearly imposed on a pulse simply by a 4f-pulse shaper.
